Jill Bray

Having gained a diploma in Fine Art, Jill continued studying courses in printmaking with Michael Honnor. She has had several solo shows, including one at Southampton University, Bishop Otter College, Chichester and Bedates School, Petersfield.

Mixed exhibitions have involved galleries in London, Cranbourne and a European travelling exhibition organised by Portsmouth University.

She has been very successful in open competitions, showing three times in the Laing Exhibitions, three times in the Open Print Exhibition, at the Royal West of England Academy; three times in the National Open Print Competition at the Mall Galleries and three times in the Chichester Open, being a prizewinner in 2007.

Work is held in private collections including the Hampshire County Council Offices and Bishop Otter College. She uses elements of landscape, and the human marks on it, to suggest the history and character of the rural environment. The layering of marks mirrors the archaeology and traces of land usage still to be found in burial sites from the bronze age, to the M3 cutting through Twyford Down.
